H&M to launch 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' collection

Come December, you will be able to dress like Lisbeth Salander, the dark and urban anti-heroine of David Fincher's version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
Working together with the film's costume designer Trish Summerville, H&M will release a 30-piece collection consisting of leather jackets and pants, torn jeans and slouchy hoodies in a mainly black, grey, and worn-white color palette.
"Salander's look is very real and very lived in, with pieces that her character has worn for a long time, like her jackets that act as her armour to shield her from the world. I wanted the collection to have the essence and strength of Salander, with a fashion edge...," Summerville said in a statement.
"The clothes are all about the attitude -- they have a toughness to them but they are also really flattering," added Anna Norling, designer for H&M's Divided range, which will host the collaboration.
Launching exclusively at Parisian concept store Colette on November 28, the collection will be available worldwide and online from December 14.

Top ten fashion films of the season, ranked by the Business of Fashion

Fashion media have long ranked each season's best advertising campaigns, but fashion films are still a rather new phenomenon that have only recently managed to reach a larger audience.
Respected fashion site the Business of Fashion started listing the season's best fashion videos two years ago and since then recorded a "staggering rise of online video consumption and the growing importance of engaging young digital consumers."
Here are its top ten for fall/winter 2011 with comments from the editors.
1. Lanvin Fall/Winter 2011 Ad Campaign
"It was Lanvin's viral sensation [shot by Steven Meisel], featuring Karen Elson and Raquel Zimmermann dancing awkwardly to "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)" by Pitbull, that proved to be the game-changer that propelled fashion film decisively into the mainstream."

2. Prada Fall/Winter 2011 Ad Campaign
"Prada's fall womenswear video, shot by Steven Meisel and featuring Antonia Wesseloh, Ondria Hardin, Kelly Mittendorf, Julia Zimmer and Frida Gustavsson, perfectly captures and communicates the delicate co-mingling of sensuality and innocence at the heart of Mrs. Prada's collection."
http://youtu.be/z_3SDmz0Atw
3. Mourir Aupres De Toi by Spike Jonze & Olympia Le-Tan
"Set after-hours on the shelves of famous [Paris] Left Bank bookstore Shakespeare & Company, Spike Jonze's quirky stop-motion animation "Mourir Aupres De Toi" brings to life the embroidered ‘covers' of Olympia Le-Tan's book-clutch bags to tell the touching story of a clumsy skeleton and his lover."

4. "Dynamic Blooms" by Nick Knight & Alister Mackie
"Recently released by experimental filmmakers Tell No One in collaboration with SHOWstudio, this succinct, visually stunning film brings to life Nick Knight and Alister Mackie's breathtaking editorial for last season's AnOther Magazine."

5. Prabal Gurung Resort 2012 - "New Thing" feat. Rye Rye
"For the launch of his first ever foray into resort, inspired by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama and the portraits of George Condo, rising designer Prabal Gurung teamed up with booty-shaking Baltimore artist Rye Rye to create a viral music video as bold and energetic as the collection."
6. AnOther Magazine Issue 21 featuring Rachel Weisz
"Shot by Craig McDean with creative direction by David James and styling by Olivier Rizzo, this off-kilter film features Rachel Weisz, cover star of this season's AnOther Magazine, in a series of non-narrative micro-performances, inspired by German modern dance legend Pina Bausch."
http://vimeo.com/30544510
7. Love F/W 2011 What Lies Beneath by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott
"Complete with white swans, bondage gear and submerged cars, this sexually-charged and transfixing film unfolds like a classical myth."
http://youtu.be/nIK_sQODYEU
8. Gareth Pugh S/S 2012 by Ruth Hogben
"Integrated into the runway event, the film both set the tone at the beginning of the show and provided a digital backdrop to the models on the catwalk, turning the presentation of Pugh's collection into a multimedia viewing experience for the assembled press, buyers and industry insiders."
9. Twin Parallel by Justin Anderson
"Directed by Justin Anderson for London-based designer Jayne Pierson and inspired by the twin paradox in physics, this beautiful film won this season's ‘Best Styling' prize at Diane Pernet's A Shaded View on Fashion Film festival."
10. Kenzonique by Kenzo
"This snappy and upbeat trailer for the relaunch of Kenzo, directed by Jo Ratcliffe with music by Rob Coudert, perfectly teased the energy of the brand's first presentation under new creative directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of Opening Ceremony."

John Malkovich brings pop-up fashions to Paris

Clothes fit for a star, designed by a star: Hollywood's John Malkovich is opening a pop-up fashion store in Paris in the run-up to Christmas to showcase his new menswear line, his firm said Tuesday.
Actor-director Malkovich will host a VIP party in Paris for the commercial launch of the Italian-made collection dubbed "Technobohemian by John Malkovich" before it goes on sale to the public from December 5 to 24.
First created three years ago, Malkovich's clothes were until now on limited display in a dozen stores around the world, but his spring-summer look is being rolled out to the general public for the first time this Christmas season.
Billed as "dandy and bohemian" in style, the line -- which was previewed in a similar pop-up store in Milan last month -- is aimed at "modern men who care about how they look, and who are firmly rooted in the 21st century."
Entitled Opificio JM, the temporary concept store will showcase suits, shirts, ties and accessories alongside a selection of luxury goods from Tuscany, from jewels to artworks and scents, hand-picked by Malkovich, whose wife is Italian.
Christmas shoppers will be able to treat themselves to a Malkovich-labelled suit for around 600 euros (830 dollars), or a shirt for 150 euros, said Liliana Pavesi Serri, head of international retail for the brand.
Malkovich, who studied costume design for the theatre in his youth, created the "Technobohemian" line in partnership with an Italian friend and designer, Ricardo Rami.
"John has always had a passion for fashion and design," said Pavesi Serri. "His inspiration is the film world, theatre and the street -- he is someone who is happy to take the metro when he is in Paris."
The US actor sketches the designs and selects fabrics for the clothes, which are produced by Rami in the Italian textile industry hub of Prato, where the Opificio JM brand has its headquarters.

Justin Timberlake and the Beautiful People Celebrate "In Time"

In the world of the future everyone is stunningly good looking, but they only live to be 25. That's the premise of "In Time," the new film starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried that premiered on Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Regency Village Theatre in Los Angeles and the red-carpet roster of stars proved it to be true.
The science-fiction action flick's dynamic leading duo led the charge, along with their equally great-looking co-stars, including Olivia Wilde, Matt Bomer, Yaya DaCosta, Johnny Galecki, Rachel Roberts and Collins Pennie. Even Vincent Kartheiser, the "Mad Men" favorite who used that show's extended hiatus to jump to the big screen, joined in the parade of pretty people. But Jessica Biel, one of the comeliest gals to attend the celebration of the Andrew Niccol-helmed picture, slipped in the side door unnoticed.
That is, until the after party nearby, where she and Timberlake got cozy late into the evening. Seems that on-again, off-again romance is definitely on again.
At an earlier press conference for the film, Timberlake admitted that he doesn't have that much time for romance in his life, as he's busy fulfilling his childhood dreams by becoming a movie star, especially doing a movie like "In Time."
"I got to live out a lot of boyhood fantasies in this movie," Timberlake said with a big grin, referring to the James Bond-like adventure aspects of the film. "Shooting guns and getting to learn how to stunt drive. When you're a little kid, you obviously see those types of scenes in movies and you never picture yourself as getting to the guy who does all that."
But that wasn't the popular singer-actor's reason for agreeing to follow up his acclaimed performance in "The Social Network" with such a far-out science-fiction thriller.
"It was intense for me when I read the script. And I remember for three days after, I just couldn't stop thinking about the themes, but also the fact that it was relentless in its pace," Timberlake recalled. " I saw this movie as a very beautiful story. And I'm really proud of this film."

Danish fashion icon Margit Brandt dies at 66

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Fashion icon Margit Brandt, whose simple cuts and 1960s miniskirts marked one of the first international breakthroughs for Danish designs, has died. She was 66.
Margit Brandt brand manager Maria Stubben told The Associated Press Monday that the Denmark-born designer died earlier in the day following a long fight against lung disease.
Brandt presented the first collection of her brand B-age in 1965. The short and close-fitted garments stood out from other designs of the time and B-age stores were quickly opened in Paris, Barcelona, Tokyo, San Francisco, New York and London.
The designer is survived by her husband Erik Brandt and their two daughters, Emilie and Julie.
Funeral arrangements weren't immediately known.

Video Fashion Week launches on style.com

In case you never tire of fashion weeks, you're in luck: just after the Big Four -- New York, London, Milan, and Paris -- wrapped up their events last week, Vogue website style.com will present a new spring/summer collection video for 12 consecutive days.
Twelve different labels including Surface to Air, Joseph, and Opening Ceremony, which all don't show their collections in the four main fashion capitals, signed up to portray their spring/summer ranges in the form of original video content for Video Fashion Week, launched Monday.
The first clip, courtesy of hip Parisian label Surface to Air, can be watched at http://bit.ly/qON4YP.
In related news, Condé Nast, which owns style.com, also just announced the creation of its own entertainment division that will be "developing television and online programming based on Conde Nast personalities, articles, and general brands...although movies are also a focus," according to the New York Times.
